Cultural collective · Genoa

A cultural container born in Genoa.

Not from a business plan. From a group of people who wanted to meet, listen to music, dance and share places.

The name comes from a street.

OBD is Oberdan. Via Oberdan is the street of Casa Oberdan, the house where the group met for years and where most of what came later started to take shape. That living room was, in a way, the first OBD space.

Then the space became a mountain. Then the sea. Then a wood, a lake, a festival. The form changed many times. The principle much less.

The origins

It began when meeting was not a given.

01

The need

Very simple: to be together again.

02

A party on a mountain

Music, friends, an open space and almost nothing else. Far more people came than expected.

03

It gets a name

By the second party it was clear it had not been an episode. That movement became El Cartel.

04

The search gets precise

Techno becomes a language and quality becomes a responsibility. We learn from outside without copying it.

The people in it are not an accessory to the project. They are the project.

Over time the project became more structured: organisation, production, budgets, responsibility. Growing up does not have to mean becoming impersonal.

How we do things

No manifesto. A few things that got clearer.

Quality, not sterile perfection.

Freedom, when it is lived alongside others.

Music as a cultural language, not only entertainment.

Places, and the responsibility of respecting them.

A party can be light without being empty.

One word stays above the others: respect. For people, for nature, for whoever works and whoever takes part. Freedom, yes — shared freedom.

The people are the project.
